CREATING LIVABLE CITIES
Tuesday 13 October 2009
Great Hall, NGV International
Following on from the success of the 2040 City Design Laboratory series during the
State of Design Festival, in partnership with
Melbourne Water, Design Laboratory will look next to the power of conversation and different creative perspectives to create new visions for Melbourne as a ‘liveable city’ in 2040.
The Liveable City Design Laboratory will explore the role of water in creating a liveable city. What is the tap of the future, the garden of the future, the local park of the future? How might water integrate with the built environment and enhance our way of life, support sustainable lifestyles, reduce energy use, and be valued by our community? What roles do our rivers and creeks play in the design and future liveability of our city? How can inner city suburbs morph into cool and green places, whilst outer suburbs evolve into low impact, intelligent spaces?
The Liveable City Design Laboratory will bring together 200 industry leaders from across a broad range of professional disciplines to generate ideas and build networks for creating a liveable city.
This will be a forum to take innovative ideas beyond a concept. A review panel will commission selected individuals and/or organisations to progress a selection of ideas generated at the Liveable City Design Laboratory over the next 12 months to be part of an exhibition during the
2010 State of Design Festival.
