MELBOURNE CONVERSATIONS -
GETTING MELBOURNE TALKING

A series of free public discussions presented by the City of Melbourne, Melbourne Conversations has been getting Melbourne talking since 2001. The program of talks has engaged our diverse community and contributed to our lively civic culture and public intellectual life.

The aim of the program is to contribute to the expression of topical ideas and opinions on wide ranging topics and build an informal network of active citizens who are connected to the world and engaged with Melbourne’s diverse culture. A hallmark of the program is the opportunity to ask questions and have your say.

STATE OF DESIGN

Taking place from July 15-25, State of Design Festival will showcase Victoria’s leading designers, creative teams and innovative businesses via four major programs focused around the 2009 theme ‘Sampling the Future’. The 2009 programs will comprise Design Capital -the business seminar series, Design For Everyone public and cultural events, Design:Made:Trade - an industry fair and the biennial Premier’s Design Awards (next held in 2010).

Encouraging everyone to explore and learn, State of Design Festival demonstrates why Victoria is Australia’s centre for design excellence and Melbourne, its design capital design.

MELBOURNE'S OFFICE OF KNOWLEDGE CAPITAL

The Office of Knowledge Capital is a collaboration between Melbourne and its eight metropolitan universities to develop and promote the city's knowledge capabilities.  Its partners are Australian Catholic University (Melbourne), Committee for Melbourne, Deakin University, La Trobe University, Melbourne City Council, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, University of Melbourne and Victoria University.

Our focus is on better connecting the capabilities within our universities with business and industry, especially through facilitation and networking. Melbourne's university sector has a tremendous breadth and depth across the design field that is world class, and our support of the State of Design Festival and the Design Laboratory series reflects this.
